● HPMC (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose)
● MHEC / HEMC (Methyl Hydroxyethyl Cellulose / Hydroxyethyl Methylcellulose)
Wall putty, also known as skim coat, is a thin finishing layer applied to walls before painting or wallpapering. It provides a smooth, uniform surface and improves adhesion for top coatings. To ensure excellent workability, crack resistance, and long-lasting performance, modern wall putty formulations rely heavily on cellulose ethers like HPMC and MHEC.
At Hehui Chemical, we offer high-purity HPMC and MHEC products that are specifically engineered for use in cement-based and gypsum-based skim coats. Our additives enhance every aspect of the application process — from mixing to final finish.
Water Retention
Maintains adequate moisture during setting, allowing better cement hydration and preventing surface cracks or premature drying.
Workability Enhancement
Improves spread ability, smoothness, and ease of troweling — especially important for thin layers.
Open Time & Application Efficiency
Longer open time means fewer interruptions and more efficient on-site performance.
Anti-Sagging and Thixotropy
Improves vertical hold and consistency, allowing thick applications without dripping or sagging.
Surface Quality
Ensures a fine, pinhole-free finish that boosts paint adhesion and final appearance.
High viscosity stability and purity
Excellent compatibility with white cement and gypsum
Tailor-made grades for tropical and cold climate performance
Reduced air-entrainment for smoother surface
Produced in ISO-certified factories with advanced technology
Step 1: Preparation of Base Materials
Begin by preparing the dry ingredients of the wall putty, which typically include binders (like cement or gypsum), fillers (such as calcium carbonate), and other additives.
Step 2: Mixing HPMC & MHEC
Both HPMC and MHEC should be added to the dry mix in appropriate quantities based on the desired properties of the final product (usually around 1-3% by weight of the dry mix).
HPMC: Add HPMC to enhance water retention and improve the adhesion of the putty.
MHEC: Add MHEC to improve workability, viscosity, and reduce shrinkage.
Step 3: Hydration of the Mixture
Slowly add water to the dry mix while stirring to ensure proper dispersion of HPMC and MHEC.
The water should be added gradually to avoid clumping and ensure a smooth, uniform paste.
Step 4: Mixing and Homogenization
Continue mixing the paste until the mixture reaches a smooth, homogenous consistency. The consistency should be thick enough to stay in place when applied to vertical surfaces, but also smooth enough to spread easily.
Step 5: Application on Walls
Apply the putty mixture to the wall surface using a trowel or putty knife. The mixture should be spread evenly across the surface, filling in any cracks, holes, or imperfections.
Use a smoothing tool to create a smooth and even finish.
Step 6: Drying and Curing
Allow the wall putty to dry and cure for the recommended period, ensuring it hardens to a solid finish. This may take several hours to a day depending on environmental conditions.
Residential and Commercial Buildings: Wall putty is commonly used to create smooth, even surfaces for painting or wallpapering in both residential and commercial spaces. The inclusion of HPMC and MHEC improves the quality of the finish, making the application more efficient and ensuring long-lasting results.
Surface Smoothing: Wall putty with HPMC and MHEC is applied to smooth out rough walls, patch up cracks, and fill gaps. This is crucial for achieving a flawless paint finish, as the putty creates an ideal base layer.
Durability Enhancement: The addition of HPMC and MHEC in wall putty increases the longevity of the finish by preventing issues like cracking, peeling, or flaking over time. This is particularly useful in high-humidity areas such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Cost-Effective Surface Preparation: Using HPMC and MHEC in wall putty ensures that the material spreads easily and provides better coverage. This reduces the need for multiple layers, saving on material costs and time.
Eco-Friendly Construction: In eco-conscious building projects, wall putty containing HPMC and MHEC can contribute to the overall sustainability of the project, as these cellulose ethers are biodegradable and non-toxic.
Packaging: 25kg kraft bags with inner PE liner
